Elise Hernandez, AMFT
I have always valued understanding other perspectives with empathy and an open-mind, which fueled my passion for this kind of work since early on. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy from Pepperdine University.
While finishing undergraduate studies in the Bay Area, I gained experience working with children, adolescents, and their families in residential settings, building strong and meaningful relationships with high-risk youth. I worked closely with suicidal ideation, self-harm, depression and anxiety, and implemented CBT, strengths-based, and solutions-focused interventions to instill positive behavioral and emotional change.
Since returning home to LA for graduate school, I have practiced individual therapy in the community mental health setting, working with adults of all ages experiencing a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief & loss, and phase of life adjustments. Using a primarily psychodynamic orientation, I use the therapeutic bond to guide each individual’s process.
I believe growth begins in a safe, comfortable, and accepting environment where a strong therapeutic relationship can flourish. We will work together to figure out what you need, explore and understand deeper parts of yourself, and bring awareness that can facilitate change or growth. I am grateful for the potential to learn and grow together, and I look forward to hearing from you.
